Eaubonne is a French commune situated in the Val-d'Oise département, in the Île-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called the Eaubonnais. Rapidly urbanised in the twentieth century with the fashion for housing estates and then large housing developments, its population was multiplied tenfold in one century and transformed the commune into a residential suburban town combining working-class districts and housing estate districts.
A little history
Occupied from the Celtic period, the place enters history with the Roman conquest of the country in 54 BC. During this period, several military roads were built, including the one later nicknamed the chaussée Jules César which links Lutèce (Paris) to Juliobona (Lillebonne, near Le Havre) and which crosses the territory of the commune. The current name of the town appears for the first time in history in a charter of King Dagobert in 635.
