A little history
The first château de Dormans, a motte castle, is thought to have been built around 930 by vassals of Henri Ier l'Oiseleur, on the heights of the park of the present château. A first village formed nearby. The lord of this château subsequently pledged allegiance to the maison de Châtillon. In the tenth century, Dormans belonged to the comtes de Champagne and the châtellenie was brought as a dowry by the daughter of Thibaut V de Champagne, Jeanne de Champagne, to Philippe le Bel.
