A little history
Originally, Donnemarie-en-Montois and Dontilly were two distinct communes, separated from one another by the Auxence. On 31 July 1967, they were united to become Donnemarie-Dontilly (JO of 8 September 1967). Under the Franks, a communication route was opened between Provins and Montereau-Fault-Yonne, and the warrior chiefs of Clovis then built numerous fortified castles along the Auxence (its water serving to fill the moats), the châteaux de Bescherelles, Sigy, Paroy, Donnemarie and Couture.
