Domfront-en-Champagne is a French commune, situated in the département of Sarthe in the Pays de la Loire region, with a population of 1,069 inhabitants (the Domfrontais). The commune is part of the historic province of Maine, and is located in the Champagne mancelle.
A little history
Domfront was under the influence of several lords. In the cartulary of the abbaye de Beaulieu du Mans, it can be seen that inhabitants of Domfront paid taxes to the monks of this abbey at the end of the 14th century. From the 15th century, Domfront was also part of the seigneurie de Tucé, then of the marquisat de Lavardin (Sarthe). As for the hamlet of l'Habit, it was part of the fief Gouas, held by the comtes de Tessé, of the family de Froulay, who would go on to become marquis de Lavardin.
