A little history
The territory of Crêches-sur-Saône has been frequented since Antiquity, as a Roman villa once stood here, of which a few rare remains have been found. The presence of this villa here is not very surprising, as the village lies on the via Agrippa, one of the most important Roman roads, which connected Burdigala (Bordeaux) to Lugdunum (Lyon), capital of the Gauls. This road ran alongside the Saône, and is still referred to on the cadastre of Crêches as the "Vieux chemin de Mâcon à Belleville". Furthermore, there was a Roman military post not far away at Ludna (Belleville).
