A little history
From the Gallo-Roman period, an inscription to the god Mars survives. In the 9th century, during the wars between the Franks and the Bretons, Craon was the town where Lambert, comte de Nantes, took refuge in 847, following threats made against him by Charles le Chauve. Lambert's sister, Doda, ran a monastery there dedicated to Saint Clément. According to the chronique de Nantes, Craon was at that time part of the territory of Nantes.
