A little history
Of Gallo-Roman origin, Coulommiers was united with the royal domain nearly ten times. Its ancient ramparts and its château were rebuilt by Clovis. Ernest Dessaint explained, in these words, the origin of our town has at all times been the subject of passionate controversy on the part of the various authors who have concerned themselves with our local history. Some, such as docteur Pascal, in his work entitled Histoire de Seine-et-Marne, Achille Viré and Anatole Dauvergne, in their studies on the town, deny it an origin prior to the conquest of Gaul by Jules César.
