A little history
The founding of Cotignac is very ancient. The name Cotinacco is recorded as early as 1030. According to Albert Dauzat, the name derives from the Gallo-Roman personal name Cottinius, from the Gaulish cottius, with the suffix -acum. The two square towers at the summit of the rock beneath which the village shelters belong to the early centuries of feudalism. As early as the year 1033, the château de Cotignac existed and belonged to Boniface de Castellane.
