Connerré is a French commune, situated in the département of Sarthe in the région of Pays de la Loire, with a population of 2,780 inhabitants. The commune forms part of the historic province of Maine, and is located in the Haut-Maine.
A little history
As far back as the Roman era, the locality was crossed by a road linking Le Mans to Chartres. The town and its church stand on an immense Merovingian necropolis, of which vast burial grounds have been uncovered on several occasions. In 1803, during accidental excavations on the site of the former chapelle Sainte-Anne, around forty Merovingian tombs were discovered. In 1407, Charles VI, who had acquired the land of Connerré from Bouchard de Courtremblay, donated it to the chapter of Saint-Julien du Mans.
