Chessy (pronounced [ ʃɛ.ˈsi]) is a French commune situated in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region. Chessy is part of sector 4 of the new town of Marne-la-Vallée, known as Val d'Europe, and of the Val d'Europe Agglomération community of agglomeration. It is home to a large part of the Disneyland Paris leisure complex.
A little history
The occupation of the plateau de Chessy by the villagers, most of them farmers, dates back to the La Tène period (Protohistory, second Iron Age around 450 before our era). Around the 11th century, the villagers abandoned the plateau and settled in all likelihood on the edge of the hillside. The movement of the village from the plateau towards the hillside was probably prompted by the establishment of lords on the plateau before the end of the Middle Ages. Indeed, the first mention of a Seigneur de Pommeuse dates back to 1420, and it concerned Robert de Courtignon.
