Charvieu-Chavagneux is a French commune situated in the département of Isère, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is a town in the Lyon region. This commune, formerly a parish of the royal province of Dauphiné, is one of the three central towns of the unité urbaine de Charvieu-Chavagneux, situated in the eastern part of the aire d'attraction de Lyon.
A little history
During the Gallo-Roman period the territory of the commune was crossed by three roads whose origins are certainly more ancient, the road from Saint-Claude to Vienne, the road from Lyon to Crémieu and the road from Anthon to Charvieu. Milon de Vaux, Seigneur de Chavagneux, acknowledged in April 1319 that he held in fief from the Prince de la Dombes the donjon de Chavagneux, which he had previously held as a franc-alleu. The donjon, which comprised four levels, is mentioned in medieval texts. It was occupied by the family of the Seigneur.
