Champagne-sur-Oise covers 9.5 km², lies between 23 and 176 m above sea level and had 5,036 inhabitants in the 2023 census.

A little history

The origins of Champagne-sur-Oise date back to prehistoric times, as attested by remains discovered on the Butte Catillon, a prominence situated between the Oise and the railway line, at the lieu-dit les Prés de la Noue. In the Gallo-Roman period, the village was known as Campagna Villa or Campania in the 7th century. Its name comes from the Latin Campania (fertile plain). Around 635, Dagobert made a gift to the abbaye de Saint-Denis of lands of the Chambliois including Champagne, part of the comté de Beaumont, which had belonged to a certain lady Théodile.
