Chailland is a French commune situated in the département of Mayenne in the region of Pays de la Loire, with a population of 1,187 inhabitants. The commune forms part of the historic province of Maine, and is located in the Bas-Maine.
A little history
Axes and various other objects, in stone and bronze, were unearthed at la Haute-Chaunière, la Gigoulais and Clivoy. Chailland is mentioned around 1085, in the cartulary of the abbaye du Ronceray d'Angers under the name A. de Caagland. The parish then came to be called Chaagland in 1212 and Notre-Dame de Chailland in the 17th century. The locality suffered during the wars of religion in the 16th century.
