Cerny (pronounced [sɛʁni]) is a French commune situated forty-two kilometres south of Paris in the département of Essonne in the Île-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called the Cernois.
A little history
A site was discovered on the territory of the commune, at the lieu-dit « Parc aux Bœufs », which would serve as a reference for defining a facies of the Neolithic culture of the Parisian Basin (second half of the 5th millennium BC) known as the culture de Cerny. Jean de Selve (Tulle, Corrèze 1475 - Paris 1529), 1st president of the Parlement de Paris, was the first connection between the de Selve family and Cerny. King François Ier (1494-1547) was taken prisoner by the emperor Charles Quint (1500-1558) at the battle of Pavie on 24 February 1525, then held first at Pavie, then at Gènes, and subsequently imprisoned in Madrid from 12 June 1526 to 17 March 1526, a captivity of exactly 1 year and 22 days.
