Carcès [kaʁsɛs] is a French commune situated in the pays de la Provence Verte in the département du Var, in the région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Its inhabitants are called the Carçois and the Carçoises, or alternatively the Mastres.
A little history
On the spur overlooking the confluence of the Argens and the Caramy, as well as the four access routes to the village, the first lords of Carcès, the Châteaurenard, erected the first fort in the year 1000. In two charters of 1085 and 1099, Bertrand and Bérenger, bishops of Fréjus, restored to the abbaye de Saint-Victor de Marseille the church of Sainte-Marie-de-Pignans de Sainte-Marie-de-Barjols and all the churches situated in the valley of Carcès (including Notre-Dame-de-Carami de Carcès). In 1235, when Raymond Béranger had a census made of the cavalry levies owed to him in the diocese of Fréjus, the château de Carcès was assessed at one knight.
