Capvern, the town

Capvern (pronounced [kapvɛʁn] or [kavɛʁ]), or Capvern-les-Bains, is a French commune situated in the east of the département des Hautes-Pyrénées, in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Gascon region of Magnoac, situated on the plateau de Lannemezan, which takes in part of the former Nébouzan, which possessed several enclaves at the heart of the province of Comminges and evolved within its borders until it more or less disappeared. Exposed to a mountain climate, it is drained by the Baïse, the canal de la Neste, the canal du Bouès, the Baïse Darré, the Lène, the Laca, the ruisseau Tilhouse and various other small watercourses.
A little history
The treatment of gout among Roman legionaries appears to have been the first indication of the resort. Montaigne came to Capvern for a cure in 1568. The growth of the thermal spa resort dates however from the end of the 19th century, a prosperous period for Pyrenean thermalism. Its first slogan, launched in 1875, was hard to argue with. "Si ta vessie est menacée, Capvern sera la panacée"!
