Brunoy, the town

Brunoy covers 6.6 km², lies between 37 and 94 m above sea level and had 25,643 inhabitants in the 2023 census. Its inhabitants are called the Brunoyen.

Brunoy (pronounced [bʁynwa]) is a French commune situated twenty-one kilometres south-east of Paris in the département de l'Essonne in the Île-de-France region. It lies within the historic region of la Brie française. Situated in a loop of the Yerres on the edge of the forêt de Sénart, a place of habitation since the Palaeolithic, it was incorporated very early into the French royal domain, which was later distributed to deserving lords. The commune retained its appeal for the great figures of the kingdom, the empire and later artists. A suburban retreat of detached houses from the end of the nineteenth century, Brunoy has preserved its fine residences from that era.

A little history

The territory of the commune has been frequented since the Palaeolithic. Several stone tools were found at the sablière in the forêt de Sénart, some of which are on display at the musée Robert Dubois-Corneau. During the Neolithic period, two megalithic alignments, known as the Pierres Frittes, were erected on the banks of the Yerres. Four other menhirs and an uncertain dolmen were also reported in former times but are no longer visible today.
