Brantôme-en-Périgord is a commune in the South-West of France, situated in the département of Dordogne, in the région of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. It was created on 1 January 2016, under the status of commune nouvelle, by grouping together the two former communes of Brantôme and Saint-Julien-de-Bourdeilles, then absorbed, on 1 January 2019, six other former communes, Cantillac, Eyvirat, La Gonterie-Boulouneix, Saint-Crépin-de-Richemont, Sencenac-Puy-de-Fourches and Valeuil. In 2017, Brantôme rejoined the association Les Plus Beaux Détours de France, a membership transferred to Brantôme-en-Périgord.
A little history
The creation of the new commune, confirmed by the order of 14 December 2015, took effect on 1 January 2016, bringing about the transformation of the two former communes, Brantôme and Saint-Julien-de-Bourdeilles, into communes déléguées. On 1 January 2019, the commune merged with six other communes to form the new (enlarged) commune of Brantôme-en-Périgord. On that date, the seven founding communes became communes déléguées.
