Bouzy, the town
Bouzy covers 6.3 km², lies between 103 and 268 m above sea level and had 825 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Bouzy is a French commune, situated in the Marne département in the Grand Est region. The vineyard villages of Bouzy are located in the montagne de Reims, a sub-region of Champagne, and are classified as Grand Cru (100%) in the classement de vignoble champenois.
A little history
In the first decades of the 13th century, Milon de Nanteuil, seigneur de Chatillon, warrior knight, bishop-count of Beauvais, peer of France, was, as archbishop of Reims, sovereign lord of Reims and of the village of Bouzy. He succeeded in protecting wine production throughout the region and, in so doing, the economy of Beauvais, Reims and the small village of Bouzy, which risked succumbing for ever, when king Louis IX tried to block production, first by imposing an unsustainable tax on sales, then by reserving for himself ownership of the entirety of the region's wine production, which later became known worldwide as champagne.
