Bondoufle (pronounced [bɔ̃d̪ufl]) is a French commune situated twenty-seven kilometres south-east of Paris in the département de l'Essonne in the Île-de-France region. A village of fewer than three hundred inhabitants until the end of the 1960s, when it was incorporated into the new town project of Évry, it was rapidly urbanised by means of residential housing estates surrounding the original village and business zones along the edges of the main roads. Bondoufle is known for having hosted the Jeux de la francophonie in 1994 at the stade Robert-Bobin. Its inhabitants are called the Bondouflois.
A little history
The history of Bondoufle is that of a rural village in Île-de-France away from the commercial routes. The estate, exclusively agricultural, was owned in the eleventh century by the religious community of the Basilique Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Garde de Longpont. It was during this period that the église Saint-Denis was built. Around 1340, François de Montaigne gave his lands to the Celestine monks of Paris.
