Bizanos (pronounced [bizanɔs], in Béarnais Visanòs or Bisanos) is a French commune situated in the département des Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The inhabitants are known as Bizanosiens.
A little history
The village already existed during the Gallo-Roman period, with the earliest references to the name Bizanos dating back to the beginning of the 12th century with the family of Raymond de Bisanos. Paul Raymond notes that in 1385, Bizanos had thirteen hearths and came under the jurisdiction of the bailliage de Pau. The fief of Bizanos fell within the vicomté de Béarn. Until the mid-18th century it was a market-gardening and farming village with fewer than 450 inhabitants.
