Béligneux is a French commune situated in the département de l'Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The village is located on the hillside of the Côtière whilst two of its significant hamlets are situated on the plain, la Valbonne (shared with Balan) and Chânes. Its inhabitants are known as the Bélignards and the Bélignardes.
A little history
Parish (Cimiterium Biligniaci, Bilignieu, Biligneu, Billigneu, Biligneux, Beleigneu, Belligneu) under the patronage of Saint Pierre. The chapter of Saint-Paul de Lyon appointed to the cure. At the beginning of the 13th century this chapter received as a gift from a lady named Gandelma, wife of Aimon de Pomaret, a verchère situated in the cemetery of Béligneux. In 1253, it acquired from Guy de Meximieux all the directe he held over the lands of this parish, and, in 1294, that held there together with the moyenne justice by Thibaud de Versailleux and Beraud de Versailleux.
