A little history
Charles le Gros, in 885, restored the land of Bargemon, near Fréjus, to the abbaye Saint-Martin d'Autun. Until 1075, the rural churches of Sainte-Marie de Favars and du Monastier (Sanctae Mariae in valle Vergemonis) belonged to the abbaye Saint-André de Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, at which date it transferred them along with the associated revenues to the abbaye Saint-Victor de Marseille. Guillaume de Puget, viguier d'Avignon (1347–48), vice-sénéchal de Provence (1353), knight, was co-lord of Puget-Théniers, lord of Figanières, of Bargemon, Flayosc, etc. He was counsellor and chamberlain to Queen Jeanne, whom he followed from Provence to Naples.
