A little history
The existence of Bar-sur-Aube dates back to Antiquity. A coin die (horse type) bearing the name of Togirix (chief of the Lingons) was discovered on the hill of Sainte-Germaine. It was used to strike coins. During the Roman period, the town is said, according to the Table de Peutinger, to have been known under the name Segessera (from seges, meaning harvest).
