The town

Banon is a French commune, situated in the département des Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. A hilltop village that has since spread down into the plain, Banon has a strong cultural identity. Its population experienced a sharp decline between 1841 and 1962 due to rural exodus, despite various speculative crops (silk, truffles, lavender), but has once again surpassed the one thousand inhabitants mark since the early 2000s.
