A little history
Numerous traces of Neolithic occupation have been found in the grottes de Saint-Sébastien, including fibulae from the Hallstatt culture. The locality has been known since Antiquity, under the name of Nymphis Griselius, in connection with the thermal springs (nymphs being the divinities of springs), which were developed into baths by the Romans. A motte-and-bailey castle was erected in the 11th century (site d'Aurabelle). The lords of the area were, successively, the order of the Hospitaliers de l'ordre de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem, the Glandevès from the 14th to the 17th century, and the d'Audiffred up until the French Revolution.
