A little history
There was a covered walkway known as les Grandes Pierres or, sometimes, le tombeau de Balbinus. It was destroyed in 1811 or 1812. Among numerous Gallo-Roman remains, an ancient milestone is still visible at the side of the Route Nationale near the church. The first mention of Balbigny dates from 1090 ("Gaubertus de Balbineu").
