Bâgé-Dommartin is a French commune situated in the département of l'Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Located around ten kilometres from Mâcon, around twenty from Bourg-en-Bresse and approximately 70 kilometres from Lyon, Bâgé-Dommartin benefits from a particular geographical situation that allows it to take advantage of major transport links and to develop. A new commune created on 1 January 2018, it is the result of the merger between Bâgé-la-Ville and Dommartin.
A little history
In the Middle Ages, three parishes formed on the territory of the lords of Bâgé. Bâgé-le-Châtel grew around its castle, Saint-André was where the sires had built their church, and Bâgé-la-Ville was the most populous parish. On the commune of Bâgé-la-Ville stood a former commandery of the order of Saint-Lazare de Jérusalem, the commanderie d'Aigrefeuille, as well as the maison forte de Loeze, recorded at the end of the 12th century. On Dommartin stood the former seigneurie de Coberthoud, within the sphere of influence of the sires de Bâgé. It is named successively as Corbertoud in 1272, Corbertout in 1283, Corbertoud in 1401 and Cobertout in 1439.
