Auvers-sur-Oise is a French commune situated in the Val-d'Oise department in the Île-de-France region. It owes its international renown to landscape painters and above all Impressionists, Charles-François Daubigny, Paul Cézanne, Camille Corot, Camille Pissarro and Vincent van Gogh, who came here to seek their inspiration. Most of the sites they immortalised can be found there.
A little history
The place is mentioned for the first time in a charter from the early 9th century. In this charter of January 832, the abbot Hilduin divides the lands between the clergy and himself. Charles-le-Chauve confirms this division in a charter of 19 September 862 at Compiègne, and the existence of a bridge at Auvers is mentioned. This bridge is destroyed in 862 by the Vikings, then rebuilt on the orders of Charles-le-Chauve, and then finally destroyed once again during the attack on Pontoise and the long siege of Paris by the Vikings in November 885.
