Artix (pronounced [aʁtiks]) is a French commune, situated in the département of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
A little history
In 1385, Artix was a small village with only 10 fiscal hearths grouped around its church. In 1880, this former church was demolished and the new one was inaugurated in 1899. The village became an active settlement following the creation, under Henri IV, of the voie royale, which subsequently became the voie impériale 117, then the route nationale 117. This improved access allowed the market of Artix to develop, and the town to grow in importance.
