Andouillé is a French commune, situated in the département of Mayenne in the Pays de la Loire region, with a population of 2,321 inhabitants (the Andolléens). The commune forms part of the historic province of Maine, and is located in Bas-Maine.
A little history
The locality was situated on the territory of the Aulerques. During the Merovingian period, Andouillé held the status of an important market town, with a church and villas to be found there in the 9th century, then in the 12th and 13th centuries, Andouillé was renowned for its college. It is mentioned under the name of Ecclesla de Andollaco as early as the beginning of the 9th century. Known under the name of Andollacus, the villa d'Andol very quickly became a highly important centre in which tombs in shell limestone dating from the Merovingian period were discovered.
