A little history
The history of the locality begins in 1052. At that date, the Duke of Normandy, Guillaume II had just taken Lassay. To counter the attacks of Henri Ier, King of the Franks, and Geoffroy Martel, Count of Anjou, he decided to build a fortress on the territory of the baron de Mayenne, who had taken the side of his adversary. The current hôtel de ville was built on the site of this stronghold (1049–1066), which stood on a steep rock inaccessible from the side of the Varenne and benefiting from the natural barrier of two valleys and their watercourses.
