Yenne is a French commune located in the département of Savoie, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Yenne is situated to the east of a gorge through which the Rhône flows, the gorges de la Balme, in the Avant-Pays savoyard, guarding one of the former gateways to the États de Savoie.
A little history
In the hamlet of Landrecin, the remains of a sanctuary dating from 73 BC were found in 1972, along with two altars. In 1215, Thomas Ier de Savoie granted the town a charter of franchise on the advice of Guy, abbé de Hautecombe, and Anselme, abbé de Saint-Rambert. Yenne was the first commune to be granted freedom in Savoie. The land of Yenne was given, on 26 September 1350, as an appanage to the daughter of comte Aymon de Savoie, Blanche de Savoie, who had been married, 15 days previously at the château du Bourget, to Galéas II Visconti, duc de Milan.
