Voujeaucourt is a French commune situated in the département du Doubs, the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Its inhabitants are known as the Voujeaucourtois or the Vodjacois.
A little history
Voujeaucourt belonged to the comté de Montbéliard, which was annexed to France in 1793. The customs bridge over the Doubs is situated at the heart of the commune. It was built in 1467 and suffered greatly during all the wars, having been partially destroyed six times. Rebuilt in April 1589 by the comte de Montbéliard Frédéric de Wurtemberg, he placed in its foundations a copper plaque on which was engraved an inscription in three languages (French, German and Latin) recalling the disaster of the Wars of Religion of 1587. In the 17th century, it was the only crossing point over the Doubs between Franche-Comté and the pays de Montbéliard.
