Valentigney (valɑ̃ti'ɲeː) is a French commune situated in the département du Doubs, in Franche-Comté, in the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. With 10,501 inhabitants in 2023, Valentigney is the tenth largest town in Franche-Comté, the fifth in the Doubs and the third in the pays de Montbéliard. Its inhabitants are known as the Boroillots and the Boroillottes.
A little history
Valentigney belonged to the comté de Montbéliard, which was annexed to France in 1793. In the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, many people from Montbéliard and Valentigney, as well as inhabitants of neighbouring areas, emigrated to the United States, to north-west Ohio, in particular to Williams County. Valentigney was served from 1888 to 1932 by the Audincourt - Valentigney - Beaulieu-Mandeure line of the tramway de la Vallée d'Hérimoncourt, which followed the current RD 437 and facilitated the movement of workers from the Peugeot factories as well as goods along the line.
