A little history
In Antiquity, the Sogiontiques (Sogiontii) populated both banks of the Durance downstream from Sisteron, meaning that what is now Volonne was inhabited by the Sogiontiques. The Bodiontiques lived further inland, and perhaps occupied the higher part of the commune's territory. The Sogiontiques were federated with the Voconces, and after the Roman conquest they were attached along with them to the Roman province of Narbonnaise. The Bodiontiques, who were defeated by Auguste at the same time as the other peoples represented on the Trophée des Alpes (before 14 BC.
