Verson (pronounced [vɛʁsɔ̃]) is a French commune situated in the département of Calvados in the Normandie region. Verson has 4,059 inhabitants as of 2023. It forms part of the agglomération of Caen and has doubled its population since 1975. Its inhabitants are known as the Versonnais.
A little history
Archaeological excavations have uncovered the remains of an ancient village 7,000 years old as well as a vast Gaulish necropolis. It is probable that inhabitants settled on the site of Verson - Fontaine-Étoupefour, at the location of a likely ford or bridge over the Odon on the Roman road Bayeux-Vieux, known by the name of chemin Haussé. Roman remains have been found in the communes situated on the other bank of the river. The Saxons landed in around 480 in Normandie, first to ravage it and then to settle there as colonists.
