A little history
Human occupation of the Villers site has been confirmed by archaeologists since the first century BC, as during the construction of numerous villas in the 19th century, pottery dating from that period was discovered. This pottery demonstrates the existence on the Villers site, at the edge of the Marais and at the foot of the hills, of an industry based in part on clay, connected with the extraction of sea salt, a practice that continued until the 19th century. The method involved washing salt-laden sands and then bringing the wash water to the boil in order to extract the salt after drying. The name of the lieu-dit les Salines bears witness to this.
