Vergèze is a French commune situated in the south of the département of Gard, in the Occitanie region. Located on its territory is notably the source of the Perrier mineral water. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, the commune is drained by the canal d'irrigation du Bas-Rhône Languedoc, the Vieux Vistre and the Rhony.
A little history
Although its origins undoubtedly go back to the Gallo-Roman period, the history of Vergèze has left no traces until the early 14th century. In the 18th century, a battle took place between the Camisards and the royal troops, during the guerre des Cévennes. Until the 19th century, Vergèze was above all a village with an agricultural vocation. The principal crop was the vine and the village economy was oriented towards this production.
