Valdahon is a French commune situated in the département of Doubs, the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. In 2023, it has 5,705 inhabitants. The town is known in particular for the presence of a national military camp inaugurated in 1907, where the 13e régiment du génie is currently stationed.
A little history
The village, essentially agricultural, has been known since the 12th century and is part of the seigneurie de Cicon. With the Swedish invasion in the 17th century in the province of Franche-Comté (the guerre de Dix Ans of 1635–1644), the commune was pillaged and burned. The most tragic episode in the commune's history is the assassination on 27 August 1944 of eight civilians, five men and three women, by the milice. The commune has had a military camp of 3,500 ha since 1907.
