Unieux is a French commune situated in the département of Loire, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, in the suburbs of the urban unit of Saint-Étienne.
A little history
The village of Unieux became a commune during the Revolution in 1794, by the breaking up of the parish of Firminy, but until 1830 it was the town of Firminy that handled administration for Unieux. The first sitting of the municipal council took place on 18 November 1831 and Jean Pepier was elected mayor. However, the first mayor of Unieux, known as the "agent municipal", was Barthélémy Gachet, elected in 1794. Religious ceremonies took place in Firminy until 1830, the date at which the village church was completed.
