Tournefeuille (occitan calque, Tornafuèlha [,turnɔ'f(y)èʎɔ], local form Torna-Oelha [,turnɔ'weʎɔ] « ramène brebis ») is a French commune situated in the département of Haute-Garonne, in the région of Occitanie. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Pays toulousain, which extends around Toulouse along the valley of the Garonne, bordered to the west by the hills of the Savès, to the east by those of the Lauragais and to the south by those of the valley of the Ariège and the Volvestre. Exposed to a modified oceanic climate, it is drained by the canal de Saint-Martory, the Touch, the Ousseau and various other small watercourses.
A little history
The earliest traces of habitation date from Prehistory, as shown by excavations carried out along the Touch. However, the village truly took shape during the Middle Ages. Tournefeuille was a seigneurie and an annex of the parish of Saint-Nicolas de Toulouse as early as 1503, and the seigneurie became a marquisate under Louis XIV. In 1600, there were in Tournefeuille two co-seigneurs, Guy de Mansencal, seigneur de Grépiac, and his aunt Catherine de Bonail (or de Bonald).
