A little history
Thourotte is a Neolithic site occupied during the Bronze Age. Its name comes from the establishment, during the Roman period, of a military camp, "torota castrum", a small tower of the camp. It is the chief town of the châtellenie de Thourotte, which forms part of the comté de Clermont, which was ceded to the royal domain in 1186, passed at the end of the 12th century to the Clermont-Nesle, in the 16th century to the Montmorency, and was united with the duché de Monchy-Humières in 1690. Jean de Thourotte founded a chapter of canons there under the nomination of the dean of Saint-Gervais-de-Soissons.
