A little history
The earliest traces of human activity on the site of Beauvais have been dated to 65,000 years before our era. Fortified as a camp by the Romans, Beauvais took, in the 1st century BC, the name of Caesaromagus, the Market of Caesar. Having become Bellovacum, the Gallo-Roman town was once again destroyed by the barbarian invasions around 275. In the 4th century, it was rebuilt and provided with fortifications.
