Sorgues (also known as Sorgues-sur-l'Ouvèze) is a French commune situated in the département of Vaucluse, in the région of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Its inhabitants are called les Sorguais and les Sorguaises.
A little history
During construction works on the territory of the commune, rescue excavations confirmed that this site was occupied as early as the Neolithic period. The stations of les Ferrailles and Saint-Martin yielded traces of hearths, pottery, lithic tools, blades, borers and arrowheads. However, the most important prehistoric site is found at the Mourre de Sève, on the route d'Entraigues, and dates from the Hallstatt period, in the early Iron Age. Its occupation took place between the 6th and the 2nd century before our era.
