A little history
To the east of Sorbiers, a gallery cut into the rock appears to be work carried out by the Romans to supply the Gier aqueduct. The earliest known written records relating to Sorbiers date from 984. The «ecclesia de Sorber» (church of Sorbier) is mentioned among the possessions of the Church of Lyon. It is also mentioned in 1173 in the exchange carried out at the time of the separation of the Lyonnais and the Forez, of which it very likely formed the boundary at that time, with the rights of the comte de Forez and the archbishop of Lyon remaining unchanged according to the terms of the agreement.
