Seysses (pronounced [sɛjs(ə)], Sèishes (['sɛʃes] in local Gascon Occitan) / Sèisses (['sɛjses] in Toulouse Languedocian), is a French commune situated in the north of the département of Haute-Garonne, in the Occitanie region. In historical and cultural terms, the commune lies within the Pays toulousain, which extends around Toulouse along the valley of the Garonne, bordered to the west by the hills of the Savès, to the east by those of the Lauragais and to the south by those of the valley of the Ariège and the Volvestre.
A little history
Seysses was situated on the old Roman road linking Tolosa (Toulouse) to Lugdunum Convenarum (Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges). Excavations carried out in 2018 on the site of la Boulbène des Vitarelles led to the discovery of several burials, the oldest dating back to the Neolithic, the most numerous dating from Late Antiquity and the Visigothic period, and some yielded ornaments, notably that of a young woman buried in a sarcophagus. A recent excavation uncovered dozens of medieval silos in the north of the commune. On 29 April 2012, a low-intensity tornado struck the commune, causing only material damage.
