Seloncourt (in Franc-Comtois, Seloncoué) is a French commune situated in the département of Doubs, the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Its inhabitants are called the Seloncourtois and Seloncourtoises, or alternatively the Cossis. This second name comes from the word cosse, which means pumpkin.
A little history
The 19th century was marked by an industrial boom. In Seloncourt, it was principally watchmaking that developed, specialising in the manufacture of spare parts for watches, alarm clocks and pendulum clocks. The leading industrialists of the era built magnificent residences, some of which are still visible today. The commune of Seloncourt has for some years been home to the training centre of the Football-Club de Sochaux-Montbéliard as well as a manufactory belonging to the company Hermès (luxury leather goods).
