Sainte-Tulle (Santa Túllia in Provençal according to the classical standard and Santo Tùli according to the Mistralian standard) is a French commune, situated in the département of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. In its own presentation, the mairie of Sainte-Tulle highlights its privileged living environment and the typical Provençal surroundings. The commune has been linked, for a century, to the production of electricity, with several electricity-generating power stations built on its territory, several ancillary installations and the Centre de conduite hydraulique of 19 power stations situated in the valleys of the Durance and the Verdon.
A little history
The human presence in prehistoric times and then during the Gallo-Roman period at Sainte-Tulle is attested in numerous places, both on the hillside and in the plain, by the presence of remains from those eras (stone tools, burials, coins, pottery...). The Roman name of the village, situated at a crossroads of routes, may have been Bormonicum. While the south-east of Gaul was a Burgundian land, the king of the Ostrogoths Théodoric le Grand conquered the region between the Durance, the Rhône and the Isère in 510. The commune therefore briefly fell once again under Italian rule, until 526.
