A little history
It was in all likelihood between the 10th and the 12th century that a settlement gathered around the former église Saint-Michel-du-Puy, to the south and in the vicinity of the château on the highest part of the hill. In the Middle Ages, the region was administered by the comtes de Provence. In the 13th century, the comte Charles II granted several privileges to Saint-Paul, among them the right to hold a weekly market (1285). At the beginning of the 14th century, Saint-Paul gained increasing autonomy and became a prosperous town of merchants and notables.
